Books
Old Growth Forests: Function, Fate and Value. Christian Wirth, Gerd Gleixner, and Martin Heimann, editors. Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2009.
This is a fantastic and up-to-date book on old growth ecology. While not dealing specifically with forests of the eastern US of Kentucky, it is one of the best scientific books on the subject and very relevant to understanding old growth forest in Kentucky. It is unfortunately very pricey.
