Blanton Forest

Blanton Forest on Pine Mountain is the largest old-growth forest in Kentucky. The forest is managed by the Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission and the Kentucky Natural Lands Trust, the latter initially forming to purchase and protect this incredibly important forest. Public access to trails is through Camp Blanton, a private camp.

Blanton Forest was the first documented location of the hemlock wooly adelgid in Kentucky, found on a field trip organized by Kentucky Heartwood. Some of the forest's hemlocks were treated in 2008 with assistance from the organization Mountain Justice.

We'll add more information to this page in the future. For now, we recommend visiting the Kentucky Natural Lands Trust and Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission pages on Blanton Forest.
